Ignelzi" href="http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/feb/02/stretch-dangerous-stretch/?utm_source=Pro%2BNews&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=February%2B2010&amp;utm_campaign=Pro%2BNews&amp;CMP=EMC-ProNews_0210" target="_blank">The San Diego Union-Tribune</a> about dangerous stretching techniques and the benefits of dynamic stretching before exercise.  It also includes some great tips on how to stretch safely, and a few examples of good stretching exercises for your post-exercise cool down stretching routine.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It’s amazing what technology is able to do and humans are able to create to help improve the lives of others!  The iWalk prosthetics company has created the worlds’ first actively powered foot and ankle!  Their PowerFoot One is designed to give amputees an ease of movement that is natural.  This prosthetic limb makes approximately 500 adjustments every second!  It’s computer processors have a library of known human foot movement patterns to help anticipate what the foot and ankle need to do.  Incredible!!!  It’s great to know that the opportunity to restore a more normal quality of life with this technological advancement might be possible after the loss of a limb.  Our feet are so important.  I hope that in time, these prosthetic devices will become affordable for the people who really need them.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The American College of Sports Medicine recently published a forecast of fitness trends for 2010, and it&#8217;s wonderful to see that Pilates training is near the top of the list!</p>
<p>While Pilates was ranked #9 in the ACSM report, by my assessment of the top ten fitness trends it appears to me that many, if not all, are distinctly related to Pilates training.  In fact I can see application of the Pilates system and Pilates principles for whole-body health to every single one of the top trends.<span id="more-703"></span></p>
<p>This is great news for Pilates teachers who are eager to share the great benefits of Pilates, and even better news for the potential increase in health enhancement of people across the globe!  Joseph Pilates would be so happy to know that his legacy continues to grow and flourish,  and millions of people are enthusiastically participating in Pilates.</p>
<p>Whether it’s Pilates, strength training, personal training, core training, specialized fitness programs for older adults, exercise programs for children, functional fitness, sport-specific training, or group personal training.  Pilates definitely fits the bill to provide excellent benefits for strength, flexibility, body awareness, control, and health!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Just tripped across a video news clip from WNBC on Tips for Avoiding High Heel Pain.  Oh the things women do in the name of looking good and feeling sexy!  So how many of you have experienced foot, ankle, knee, hip, or back pain and now are thinking your poor-fitting shoes might be part of the problem?  Or perhaps you never realized that your stilettos might be a big part of the problem&#8230;  Our feet (as well as the rest of our body) shouldn&#8217;t hurt.  Pain is the red-flag that there is something we need to pay attention to and take care of.  Ignoring things and hoping that it will just go away is never a great option.<span id="more-695"></span></p>
<p>It&#8217;s nice to hear that not only can you have padding or &#8220;pillows&#8221; of goop injected into your feet by a foot surgeon, but insoles might help &#8211; and exercise is highly recommended!</p>
<p>Personally I would much prefer to start with the exercise option!  It&#8217;s got to be cheaper, less invasive, and will help stretch and strengthen the right muscles for better support.  That along with not sacrificing comfort and fit for good looks and perhaps us gals can keep our tootsies happy in those pointy-toed high-heeled shoes.  I am a fan of heels vs. flats, but not for long periods of time.  When I shop for sexy shoes,  if they hit my arch well and don&#8217;t squish my toes there&#8217;s a good chance I&#8217;ll be adding a new pair of shoes to my closet.</p>

And that ACE has commissioned several studies over the past three years to evaluate the benefits of using video games for an exercise program.   I posted an article about my Wii Fit experience awhile back, and it appears that this trend towards TV Wii fitness just might be here to stay!  Is it really effective? If you are doing ANYTHING, it’s better than nothing!  Definitely your results are going to vary based on your conditioning level.  I’m sure that there are lots of folks out there like Sherry Bridson in this <a title="Get Fit the Wii Way by Krista Jahnke, Detroit Free Press" href="http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091122/FEATURES08/911220321/1372/FEATURES/Get-fit-the-Wii-way&amp;template=fullarticle" target="_blank">Wii Fit article</a> who have seen amazing results getting fit with her home video exercise program.  But I have to wonder…is it the  actual Wii Fit program, or her dedication and consistency to spend 90 minutes a day playing interactive health related video games?  What would her results have been if she’s walked, jogged, lifted weights, done Pilates, rode a bike, or any other  combination of fitness programs for a consistent 90 minutes a day???  Find things you enjoy doing for health and exercise and DO THEM REGULARLY!   Whether it’s Wii or enjoying the wonders of the great outdoors!</p>
