Barefoot Running and Foot Fitness

It is fantastic to see national headline news picking up stories about foot fitness and the benefits of barefoot exercise!

One of Christopher McDougall’s comments in this video clip is that he was searching for anything that might help him reduce injuries and keep on running.  With a closet full of shoes that  just wasn’t helping him avoid the heel pain, Achilles pain, and arch pain he was challenged with, the medical advice he received was stop running.  Good advice, but not ever what somebody wants to hear if it involves giving up something that we love to do that’s supposed to be good for us.

For Christopher McDougall author of Born to Run, he realized that, “Shoes are the Devil,”  and learning barefoot running techniques has helped keep him on the road and injury-free.

Watch the interview on this CNN video clip.  Barefoot ultrarunner Christopher McDougall explains his inspiration for barefoot running, injury prevention, and the benefits of running without shoes.

Imagine…Life Without Feet!

“Foot for Thought…”Beautiful and healthy legs, feet, ankles, arches, and toes

As an author and advocate for foot care. And having learned the hard way with some serious foot pain issues as a competitive gymnast when I was a teenager. I’ve been on the bandwagon to spread the word about the importance of healthy & happy feet.

So last night I was thinking…what life would be if we didn’t have feet? And here’s what I came up with…and how things might be different if for some reason things changed and our feet became obsolete.

Great Press on NPR for Pilates and Foot Exercises – “How to Keep your Feet Happy”

I’m thrilled to see foot-care and foot exercise making national headlines!

Did you happen to see or hear the news?  I’m not a regular National Public Radio listener, but fate stepped in and brought it to my attention. So how did I find out?   It was a double whammy….which to me was a sign that I had to check it out.

Healthy Feet, Exercise & New Shoes

As you improve  foot fitness it’s important to invest in new shoes.  Old shoes will reinforce your old posture habits.  Evaluate what’s sitting in your shoe closet.  If your shoes aren’t helping your feet feel better it’s time to toss them out, or donate worn but not worn-out shoes to your favorite charity.

Eliminate your risk for foot pain with exercise, and treat your feet to the support they deserve with good-fitting, comfortable, supportive shoes.”
